The RM6292 Cloud Compute 2 framework is now expected to open its doors for applications this month (May 2023). With a long enough break before G-Cloud 14 opens next January 2024, this route to market could be something worth considering.
Cloud Compute was created by Crown Commercial Service (CCS) to complement G-Cloud. It is a way for public sector buyers to procure cloud services. Plainly, Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service solutions.
Now with the 2nd iteration approaching, CCS has made some tweaks. This means making the framework more usable for SMEs and smaller suppliers, rather than the large-company-heavy predecessor.
What are the differences between Cloud Compute 2 and G-Cloud 13?
On the surface, there’s a lot of crossover between the two frameworks. G-Cloud provides a route to market for suppliers of Cloud Hosting, Cloud Software and Cloud Support. However, Cloud Compute 2 focuses largely on the Cloud Hosting aspect of services. Where the Cloud Hosting Lot within G-Cloud provides a catalogue of off-the-shelf services, Cloud Compute 2 provides a way for buyers to procure directly from Cloud Service Providers (CSPs).
The framework will mainly offer IaaS, PaaS and value-added services around these. It will not be off-the-shelf and will involve further competition.
I applied for G-Cloud 13, should I apply for Cloud Compute 2?
It depends. Cloud Compute 2 is NOT for software solutions, so if you’re on (or applied for) Cloud Software on G-Cloud, this one isn’t for you. However, a lot of suppliers who applied for Cloud Hosting may be suitable – especially if you can deliver what’s in the scope mentioned above.
Similarly, there may be some opportunities for those who applied for Cloud Support. A big however though, is that support and professional services have to relate to Hosting, IaaS and PaaS.
What should I do now?
