To CEO or not to CEO…
Chris Farthing reflects on the many changes happening with the AC team, including his move into a new role as CEO at Advice Cloud.
I’ve been having something of an existential crisis recently… nothing too dramatic but more of a public perception thing. I’ve always been pretty sceptical of small business owners with the title CEO. I personally have preferred Director or more recently Managing Director as my impostor syndrome associates the title CEO (Chief Executive Officer) with large multinational orgs or self-aggrandising one-man bands.
However, as Advice Cloud has delivered another year of awesome growth and we build the company for more, I am having second thoughts. I had quite a tricky personal situation over the past year which meant I had to step away from the business. Apart from a few ongoing projects and specific things that only I could pretty much do, I disappeared. Leaving my wonderful team to rise up and fill the gaps. And, they did it admirably, delivering another year of increased customer success and of course bottom-line results! Combine that with my discovery of a passion for Skydiving (some might call it mid-life crisis) and these days I’m pretty much a part-timer.
So… following lots of discussions internally and with my excellent advisory team I have decide to hand over the day to day running of Advice Cloud to Ella Grant, who will be acting as our new Managing Director. For those that don’t know her, she joined us in February 2017 as a Grad trainee Operations Assistant. She has very quickly risen through the company to lead our Client Delivery team, basically being responsible for our ongoing client success. On the way she picked up Sussex Grad of the Year at the Sussex Business Awards and worked on some pretty heavy frameworks so has lots of form in the success department… You can find out a bit more about Ella in our official (and much more formal) announcement.
Clearly, we will be giving her time to settle into the role with bucket loads of ongoing support from me and our excellent advisory team… I am very excited for the future and will probably, maybe, definitely, change my job title to CEO as this does kind of reflect what I’m actually doing… In the meantime, let’s all wish the fabulous Ella Grant and the team at Advice Cloud all the success in the world!
