Rob Macleod MCIPS joins Advice Cloud!
So pleased to announce Rob Macleod MCIPS is joining our merry bunch!
We are happy to announce a new addition to our team: Rob Macleod MCIPS, former Category Lead for G-Cloud at Crown Commercial Service (CCS). Unsurprisingly, Rob is joining us as a G-Cloud Consultant and will be working with our lovely clients on supporting them to make the most out of the framework.
Rob spent the first half of his career in IT with the shipping firm P&O culminating in managing large datacentres in Singapore and latterly New York. 9/11 brought about a return to the UK and a change of career direction. He joined the Environment Agency at the Thames Barrier providing procurement and business management to a project looking at protecting London from flooding once the Barrier reached its ‘sell-by’ date. After that, he joined OGC Buying Solutions (today better knows as CCS) and went on to design and procure for a number of framework agreements including G-Cloud.
To find out a bit more about Rob we asked him a few questions.
You spent the last 7 years as Category Lead for G-Cloud at Crown Commercial Service. What is your main takeaway?
Compared to how (and what) the public sector was purchasing IT, G-Cloud continues to offer a fantastic opportunity for smaller companies to benefit from the simpler purchasing processes.
As a G-Cloud expert, what would be your three top tips for suppliers looking to make it a success?
Put yourself in the position of buying something from the Argos on-line catalogue, what do you want to see? First of all make sure your short description is concise and accurate (if you are selling a collaboration tool then call it that – not a ‘business expansion tool’). Next, make sure the pricing is as clear as possible – if I saw in an Argos catalogue ‘please contact the store for prices’- guess what? Finally, don’t overload your service description with too much sales puff, if I was presented with screens and screens of marketing material when looking at a TV in Argos online – I would just move on. Key details, things the buyer wants to read are important, trying to force a sale through reams of irrelevant detail isn’t.
How are you planning to add value to AC clients?
Through Advice Cloud I can continue to support both buyers and suppliers in using G-Cloud based on my many years of experience in managing G-Cloud at Crown Commercial Service.
What attracted you to work with us?
I have always liked and respected Advice Cloud’s approach to and promotion of G-Cloud. They are one of the firms that really do get what G-Cloud is about.
Aww thanks, Rob!
You are semi-retired now. What’s the plan, other than working with us? Lots of sailing we presume… ?
I can say with a fair degree of confidence my little boat, which is almost as old as I am, will be chugging and gurgling through many miles of the Norfolk Broads.
Thanks Rob. And, once again a very big welcome!
