Why looking at the spend data is important
Spend data analysis could be the key to unlocking great success within the public sector. To help you get started, we've listed why you should look at the numbers...
One of the good things about using frameworks like those made available by CCS, is that you’re able to see the data. CCS regularly publish the details on who is selling, who is buying and the amount of money changing hands. Below, we’ve taken a look at why you should be looking at the data and how it can help you with your public sector strategy.
Know what your competitors are doing
Checking out the data is a great way to know what your competitors are doing. With CCS making all sales data public, you can see who is selling through the frameworks. Ask yourself:
- Who are your competitors selling to?
- How big are the deals?
- Are your competitors even making any sales through the frameworks?
These are all important questions to answer. Most importantly, If you know that your competitors are making sales and who to, you can do further research into what they’re doing differently to yourself – or the same!
You can always search these companies into G-Cloud, for example, and see what they have listed. What are they doing differently to your own listing? Checking this helps you keep your presence on the framework fresh and makes sure your listing is in a good place to win business.
Who’s buying what
As well as seeing who is selling on the framework, you can see what is being bought too. Where are government departments and public sectors looking to for their solutions? If companies are only procuring from larger organisations, what do those organisations offer?
Or on the other hand, if they’re procuring many smaller contracts and doing more business with SMEs, look at what these companies are offering too. This way you can see what these sectors are looking for in their tech.
The big spenders
The data shows that Central Government are the biggest spenders on frameworks such as G-Cloud and DOS, but breaking it down further you’ll want to look at what departments are spending and by how much.
This is helpful information. Especially for your marketing and sales strategies. You’ll know who’s willing to part with the money and do deals with suppliers – and if a lot of that spend is going to SMEs, even better. Knowing who are the big spenders on the frameworks helps you with who to engage with in the market!
Where can you find the data?
We have our own user-friendly spend data dashboard that’s available on our website. The dashboard breaks down both G-Cloud and DOS (and Digital Services) spending. You can filter by supplier size, lot type, sector and, handily, even customer/supplier name. It’s definitely worth checking out!
