Sharing Brighton’s unique narratives
We are super proud to sponsor a very special local photography exhibition: Brighton and Hove through the lens of individuals affected by homelessness

#MyBrightonandHovePhotoProject
In June 2018, 100 Fujifilm one-time-use cameras were handed out to individuals affected by homelessness at One Church, Brighton. Five days later the cameras were collected back in. The results of this amazing work will be displayed starting this week in a special exhibition that’s part of the Brighton Photo Fringe. Don’t miss out on seeing this great work at the Phoenix Center!
Each participant has chosen three images to represent their unique narrative of ‘My Brighton and Hove’. This exhibition has been created by participants who took part in the very first MY BRIGHTON & HOVE Photo Project.
In July, a panel of judges (made up of people from the homelessness and professional photography sectors, including those with experience of homelessness) chose 20 images from a selection of over 3000 printed photographs. The panel chose images they felt best represented the brief ‘My Brighton and Hove’. These images are shown in the exhibition along with the photographers’ stories.
MYBRIGHTON & HOVE Photo Project is run entirely by volunteers. They work in partnership with Cafe Art, a London Based Community Interest Company and sell photographs and calendars produced by individuals affected by homelessness. Profits directly benefit the participants in their project in Brighton and Hove and will enable future mentoring and development opportunities for the photographers.
About Brighton Photo Fringe
Brighton Photo Fringe supports early-career photographers and lens-based artists, showcases new talent and enables all kinds of people to enjoy and experiment with photography. Every two years BPF designs and delivers the largest Fringe photography festival in the UK. The 8th edition, BPF18 will run from 29 September to 28 October 2018, offering a month‐long platform for hundreds of artists to exhibit their work. In true Fringe spirit, BPF18 will take art onto the streets and into unusual and unexpected spaces right along the coast, with Festival Hubs in Brighton, Hove, Worthing and Hastings. BPF18 will develop new ways of seeing together, exploring how Photography Changes Everything.
